Syllabus

This class will be design to fit the needs of each individual student.  So you will NOT be producing the same artworks as your classmates.  You will use different mediums and different subject matters as well.  This course is designed to allow you to choose your artistic path and let your inner artist shine to its fullest potential.  So we will focus on an end result-a Portfolio.

Portfolio:

By the end of the semester you will have to create a series of 5-8 finished pieces.  Within those pieces you will need to have the following, but are not limited to these guidelines.

1.  The series must have a big idea that all your pieces reach.
2.  You must explore different medias (this is something we can discuss if you have a vision with your favorite media)
3.  You must follow all of the creativity check list guidelines in each piece-which should be no problem at all for you.
4.  You need to also follow the Elements and Principles of Design.
5.  One piece must be larger then any artwork you have ever created.

Sketchbook:

You will be given a sketchbook to doodle in and help brainstorm ideas in.  Before you begin each piece that you create, I want to see multiple sketches of options that you can possibly do for the next piece.  I may assign some assignments for homework in your sketchbook if I think necessary.  Remember we use sketchbooks as a tool, our first ideas are not always the best, so DOODLE away and never stop.  This can also be writings, not just drawings.  And these are not detailed sketches, just ideas, so they can be unfinished and remain unfinished.

Your first Sketchbook Assignment will be to come up with 10 different ideas for your series for this course.  This can be a list, not all drawings.  I do want to know what medias you want to work with and which you might want to try-even if we never used it before that is ok.  Then I want you to sit down with me and talk me through your idea.  Once I approve your idea I want to see about 3 sketches of what you could possibly do for your first piece in this series.
